Salomon Alberto Nazar of Manassas is an inmate at the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center at 9320 Lee Avenue in Manassas. Investigators said that Nazar approached a guard with a hand-made object that was sharpened into a knife and tried to stab the officer multiple times, Prince William police said.
They struggled for control over the weapon before the officer wrenched it away from Nazar, police said. The jailer received minor injuries in the attack. It's unclear why Nazar wanted to attack the officer.
Officials charged Nazar with aggravated malicious wounding of a prison officer, stabbing in the commission of a felony, assault and battery on a prison officer, and injury of a prison officer by a prisoner, police said.
In July 2020, police charged Nazar with stabbing a woman in a domestic dispute, a press release said. She was seriously injured in the attack, and responders airlifted her to a hospital for treatment.
It's unclear if Nazar remains in prison on this charge or if there are others. Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center officials did not immediately return calls for more information.
